Perkins and CTE Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Where do I find approved Technical Skill Assessments?

ODE is maintaining of list of Technical Skill Assessments that they have approved in each of the career areas on the Oregon Skill Sets website. They can be tricky to find, so we've put together a handout with instructions for how to access the list of assessments. The handout can be found HERE

To add an additional assessment to the list, send 1) vendor information and validity/reliability information or 2) an application for a locally developed assessment to Tom Thompson at ODE.

2. How many Advisory committee meetings are required per year?

Neither Perkins nor ODE specify a number of advisory committee meetings that are required per year. However, they require that every approved CTE Program of Study has an "active advisory committee".

The standard in the Program of Study application is identified as:

Business, community and education partners, such as an Advisory Committee, participate in evaluating program vision, goals and priorities such as:

  • Assist in program of study development and validation of industry skill standards for curriculum content and technical skill assessment, where appropriate,
  • Play an active role in curriculum development, implementation and program evaluation,
  • Participate in the CTE teacher recruitment, instructor appraisal process and ongoing faculty professional development.

Examples of Evidence to document that your program meets this standard include:

  • Minutes of advisory committee meetings with names and roles of each advisory committee member.
  • Schedule and sample agendas of ongoing advisory committee meetings
  • Documentation of communication with advisory committee members
